REALIZATION OF AN INTELLIGENT SUSPENSION SYSTEM FOR A RACE CAR

Intelligent suspension systems are currently riding high in the automotive industry, especially for high performance vehicles. In this project I dedicated 6 moths for the realization of a semi-active suspension system on a race car. The core of the system are the Magneto-rheological fluid dampers and its brain is the Arduino control unit which take inputs from external sensors and reacts instantaneously in order to manage the car dynamic behavior and improve the comfort on the vehicle. I used a SPI communication protocol to manage the digital sensors and a PWM technic for modulating the dumper responses. The whole system works in a closed loop and can implement several control logics.
The work resulted in the publication of an in-depth book published by EAI (Italian Academic Edition) in February 2015.
