FORMULA SAE, POWERTRAIN TEAM, CHAIN TRANSMISSION SYSTEM DESIGN

Formula SAE is a student design competition organized by SAE International (SAE, previously known as the Society of Automotive Engineers). Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules, whose purpose is both ensuring on-track safety (the cars are driven by the students themselves) and promoting clever problem solving. Formula SAE encompasses all aspects of a business including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management, and fund raising. I was involved in the Powertrain Team and dedicated 3 months in designing a new optimized transmission chain system. The work resulted in a great improvement in the performance of the vehicle, especially for the Formula SAE acceleration event.


    My work included:

    Designing the new optimized vehicle chain transmission system

    Developing an energetic analytic method in order to calculate the tensile stress on the chain

    Analyzing testing data and take measurements in the lab

    Improving the performance of the vehicle, making it lighter and reducing its total rotational inertia
